In an article titled "The Vitreographer" by Shawn Waggoner (Glass Art, March/April 1998) Karen Kunc is quoted on the vitreographic process. She said, "...Old Garden was the first vitreograph I made, and I wanted to bring to it a richness...by using multiple layers and a build up of ink...The required the use of four plates, printed in sequence with overlapping color."

"For many people the question is 'Why glass, when metal plates have been around for centuries, and work great?' The ability to create clean color in an intaglio process appealed to me...It was a great opportunity for me to learn about the medium and see if it could meet my own challenges."
