Robert Freimark

Robert Freimark was born in Doster, Michigan. He received a Master of Fine Arts from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1951 and in the same year had his first solo exhibition at Circle Gallery in Detroit. His first solo show in New York City was at Rockefeller Center in 1954. Freimark worked in many media including painting, drawing, printmaking, tapestry and film. Throughout his career his work has focused on issues of social protest; a 1991 retrospective at Gavilan College in Gilroy, California was titled "Forty Years of Conflict - Within and Without," and  a 2000 retrospective held at the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose, California was titled "The Art of Dissent." In 2003 he premiered his film, "Los Desaparecidos" (The Disappeared Ones), a documentary based on the stories of women who survived the murderous kidnappings perpetrated by the Argentinean government in the 1970s. The film was shown in twenty international film festivals and received seven awards, including the World Film Festival Houston Award.  

The artist's work has been collected by well-known public institutions including the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio; Cranbrook Academy Art Museum, Fogg Art Museum of Harvard University, Georgia Museum of Fine Arts, Athens; Gilkey Center for Graphic Arts at the Portland Art Museum, Oregon;  Library of Congress, Washington, DC; Museo Nationale de Bellas Artes de Cuba, Havana; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Seattle Art Museum. In 1990 one hundred of Freimark's graphic works were acquired by the National Gallery of American History in Washington, DC.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Miklos Pogany

Miklos Pogany's formal education was taken not in fine art but in comparative literature, aesthetics and philosophy.  His graduate work in those subjects was done at The University of Chicago, where he was awarded a PhD in 1972. His Bachelor of Arts was taken at St. Procopius College in Chicago.

 

Pogany has exhibited frequently in New England at such institutions as the University of Connecticut, The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC and Cummins Art Center of Connecticut College. Solo shows of his work have been featured throughout the United States and overseas in in Budapest, Paris and Basel. His most recent solo show, in 2007, was held at Urbane Artistry in New York City; a retrospective of his work was mounted in 2004 at Kantar Fine Arts in Newtonville, Massachusetts.

 

The artist's work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art,  the Yale University Art Gallery and the Zimmerli Museum of Rutgers University. In Washington DC his work is held by The Phillips Collection and the National Museum of American Art of the Smithsonian Institution, and in Europe his work can be found at the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris and in London's Victoria and Albert Museum.

 

Pogany received a a Rockefeller Foundation Grant for research in Bellagio, Italy in 1990 and a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award in 1981.

The relationship between metaphysical and empirical realities is the central focus in Jon Jicha's art. His imagery plays on modernist foundations with whimsical intent.

Jon Jicha, is Professor of Art in the School of Art and Design, Western Carolina University. His exhibitions Include the Brno Biennal(Brno, Czech Republic0, Kathleen Ewing Gallery(Washington, DC), Society of Publication Designers/New York Public Library (NYC). American Institute of Graphic Arts (NYC); Art Direction/Javits Center (NYC), Zone One Contemporary (Asheville, NC), The Light Factory (Charlotte, NC), Asheville Art Museum (Asheville, NC) and East Carolina University (Greenville, SC).

Prints are shipped flat. Shipping and handling adds $35 to the price of the print.

Shipment and returns: Your print will be shipped as soon as we receive payment. Each print comes with a documentation sheet that certifies the materials used in making the print and the number of prints and proofs in the edition, along with other important information.

 

If you are not satisfied with your purchase return it within seven days of receipt in the packaging in which it was sent. The Littleton Collection will refund the purchase price on undamaged merchandise.
